Why Can’t I Find The ‘Chappelle Show?’
So, I go to my remote control, hit the power button, and get ready to watch the greatest sketch comedy show ever created, only to find the ‘Chappelle Show’ yanked from Netflix. I know Chappelle has a great working relationship with Netflix, as the comedian inked a lucrative deal with the streaming service company and has produced five stand up specials for them since 2016. So why would Netflix remove the ‘Chappelle Show’ from the service? Well, because Dave Chappelle asked them too.
Dave Practically Begs Us to Not Watch the ‘Chappelle Show’
In fact, the Chappelle, at the end of a stand up routine, requested that everyone boycott the show. “This is their first ni@@a lesson,” he quips, “and I’m happy to give it too them. They’re going to pay me for this show. I called my agent and I asked him is there’s anything I can do about this show and he said noooooo. Well f@ck you too then. You want something done right, I guess you gotta do it yourself. So I’m not going to the agents. I’m coming to my real boss. I’m coming to you.” It is at this point that we find out Dave’s true feelings about the the show and it’s distributors. “I’m begging you, if you ever liked me, if you ever think there was anything worthwhile about me, I’m begging you, please don’t watch that show. I’m not asking you to boycott any network. Boycott me. Boycott ‘Chappelle’s Show.’ Do not watch it unless they pay me.”
Why The Comedian Bailed Out on ‘The Chappelle Show’
It is common knowledge that the famous comedian left the ‘Chappelle Show’ in 2006 under mysterious circumstances. Years later we found out Chappelle left the show because he had been pressured to perform skits and to portray characters that he did not feel comfortable with. At the time that he left, Chappelle had been offered 50 million dollars. Sticking to his principles, the comedian rushed off to Africa to get his bearings straight and to deal with the psychological trauma of being subjected to pressure to become a contemporary minstrel. After the incident, it would take Chappelle 10 years to get his moorings together and reenter the stage. Now that he’s back, we need to make sure that he never leaves again.
No More ‘Chappelle Show’ For Me
So, I guess I won’t be watching the ‘Chappelle Show’ anymore. At least not until the greatest sketch comedian of all time gives me his consent. Comedy Central, do what’s right and pay the man and stop acting like slave masters for crying out loud! That way we can all get back to regularly scheduled programming. Damn!
