Finding the Perfect Accessory for a Formal Event
I’m scheduled to attend a special event and I thought I had the perfect tie — almost.
I discovered a unique tie and scarf set on Amazon that caught my attention. The design is bold, stylish, and the scarf makes it truly stand out.
Price: $19.99

At this price point, this is a must buy.
The colors and pattern create a statement piece that works perfectly with a dress shirt or suit. In fact, I’ve already received several compliments wearing it exactly as it came.
However, while the tie looked great, my upcoming event required something a little more formal.
I needed a bow tie.
Customizing the Tie Set
I came up with a plan to customize the tie set.
First, the scarf that came with the set was a bit wider than I preferred. I wanted something sleeker that fit perfectly under ma lapel, so my plan was to have the scarf altered to 3 inches wide and double-sided. This is a fairly simple modification that almost any tailor can complete.
Next came the bigger idea.
I ordered a second tie and scarf set and had it sent to a custom bow tie maker:

For $30, they will create a custom bow tie using your own material.
This meant I could preserve the exact fabric and pattern from the original set while transforming it into something much more suitable for a formal occasion.
The Finished Product: A Custom Bow Tie That Stands Out
The result exceeded my expectations and shows real attention to detail:
• Fully adjustable for comfort and fit
• A manufacturer’s label sewn in for authenticity
• The original material label from the tie preserved and stitched inside

It’s clear that craftsmanship went into the process.
Between the Amazon purchase and the custom work, I feel like I’m definitely getting my money’s worth. Instead of buying an expensive designer bow tie, I ended up with a unique custom accessory that nobody else will have.
Re-Imagining Your Closet: Turning Old Shirts into Must Have Accessories
This experience got me thinking about something interesting.
As spring approaches and I begin cleaning out my closet, I’m noticing several designer shirts that have seen better days. The collars may be worn or the fit might not be perfect anymore, but the fabric itself is still beautiful.
That raises an intriguing possibility.
What if those shirts could be repurposed into:
- Custom neckties
• Stylish bow ties
• Elegant handkerchiefs
• Lightweight scarves
Instead of throwing out quality fabric, it could be transformed into new accessories that extend the life of the material.
With the material already being supplied, it would be great to find someone who could create all four items at a reasonable price — ideally somewhere close to the pricepoint I’m seeing for accessories on Amazon.
Just a thought…
